The Little Book of Shocking Eco Facts

This is the third instalment of our Little Shocking Book series, and our second collaboration with Barnbrook. Barnbrook are arguably the best known studio working in Britain today - they have worked on projects for David Bowie, the Saatchi Gallery, a Japanese undertaker, White Cube, Booth-Clibborn editions, the British Heart Foundation, and countless others. Their work has been exhibited in the Design Museum and shown in many books, and all in all we have felt privileged to work on these two books with them.
This new book builds on the previous two in the series, Shocking Food Facts, by Craig Holden Feinberg and Dale Peterson (which won GOLD in the Print Competition at the International Design Awards), and Shocking Global Facts, designed and edited by Barnbrook.
Bite-sized facts are presented in meticulously illustrated and designed spreads, each more captivating than the last. Peter Fiell shares what inspired he and Charlotte Fiell to publish this series:
“Terminal 5 had recently opened, and Charlotte and I were remarking how you never see any kind of illustrated book, apart from the occasional guidebook, in airport book stores. And the reason for that is that illustrated books are generally large and expensive, so they’re not appropriate to buy as a sort of spur-of-the-moment, hand-luggage appropriate product. So we thought what if you could come up with a small low-cost format that could easily fit in a briefcase and handbag, that was highly illustrated, and of universal appeal? What were the most universally appealing subjects we could come up with?”
And so the idea for the Little Shocking Book series took root – the idea of a low-cost, high quality illustrated book that wasn’t too hefty to carry around with you, and isn’t just a book of beautiful imagery, but a source of information and inspiration. |
